We're connecting kids with nearby nature and library resources, expanding learning indoors and out. "Find Your Spot" is an invitation to explore Sit Spots — one hour a month, from May to October 2025, Roots & Sky founder, Nicole Corbo, and Librarian Sharon co-facilitate a program for kids between the ages of 9 and 12.

Participants connect with their own special spot in the natural spaces around Maple Valley Library, where they watch the seasons and landscape change, relax, reflect, and cultivate a relationship with the land and other living beings. We provide opportunities to move & play, as well as tools for exploration & documentation.

Every student - from preschool through high school - deserves the benefits of meaningful time learning in, about, and with nature.

The goal of our Essential Nature Initiative is to ensure that all students have an opportunity to spend meaningful time learning with nature and all teachers are supported in taking learning outdoors. The result is a nature-based education continuum that’s rooted in equitable access to high-quality outdoor learning.

We recognize that each learning community has unique needs, so we work in collaboration with schools, teachers and their students to make their nature-based learning experience positive and beneficial for all.

We help teachers to adapt curriculum and engage students in inquiry-based learning that will complement their indoor work. The natural environment acts as both a classroom and a teacher, as students learn in, about, and with nature. Whether we explore school property, city parks, public lands, or other local green spaces, students build leadership and team working skills as they develop a connection to place and the environment. From supported social-emotional development to the physical health benefits of being outside, students will thrive.

Nature-based learning is for any subject or curriculum.
